Srilanka, May 8 -- Twelve individuals were injured in a road accident near the Palatuwa entrance of the Southern Expressway and have been admitted to the Matara General Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred when a van traveling along the Matara-Akuressa main road collided with the rear of a stationary container truck parked on the roadside.

All injured passengers are residents of the Mulatiyana area in Matara and were returning home after a trip to the Katunayake Airport.

Initial police investigations suggest the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The Malimbada Police are continuing further inquiries into the incident.
