Sri Lanka, April 12 -- A train traveling from Avissawella to Colombo Fort collided with a three-wheeler at the Aluthambalam railway crossing in Kosgama this morning (12).

Two passengers in the three-wheeler-the driver and a woman in the back seat-were seriously injured and have been admitted to the Avissawella District General Hospital. The force of the collision was so severe that the engine of the three-wheeler was thrown several meters from the site.

Initial reports indicate that the railway gate was not closed at the time of the accident. Notably, the three-wheeler was being driven by the younger brother of the railway gatekeeper.

Kosgama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
