Sri Lanka, Dec. 20 -- Train services on the Badulla-Ambewela section of the Upcountry Railway Line, which was severely damaged during the 'Ditwa' disaster, were restored and resumed this morning (20), the Railway Department said.

Marking the resumption of services, a special Upcountry Menike train operated with Class S14 power sets departed from Badulla at 8.00 a.m., completing its maiden journey on the restored section.

Railway officials said the resumption comes 23 days after the Ditwa disaster, which caused extensive damage to the rail track and disrupted train operations on the route.
