Srilanka, April 8 -- A devastating fire at a gas filling station in Wehera, Kurunegala, has claimed the lives of four individuals, including the station manager. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. last night (7).
According to police reports, the fire broke out following an explosion in one of two gas tanks, each containing approximately 6,000 litres of gas. The explosion reportedly happened while a lorry was being refilled.
Four others sustained injuries in the incident and have been admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The Kurunegala Municipal Council fire brigade responded swiftly and managed to extinguish the blaze. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
