Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- Thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur in Northern, Northcentral, Eastern, Uva and North-Western Provinces and in Matale district, the Meteorology Department said.

There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.

The public are requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.

The Meteorology Department advises that people should: Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees, avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms, avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms, avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boat...
