Sri Lanka, Jan. 1 -- Three people were hacked to death and another woman was injured in a brutal attack carried out with a sharp weapon in the Kondeniya in Mawanella this evening, police said.

Investigations have been launched by the Mawanella Police following the incident, in which three women and a man were attacked and admitted to the Mawanella Hospital. Two women and one man later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.

The deceased, aged 52, 57 and 66, were residents of Kondeniya, Mawanella. A 35-year-old woman who was injured in the attack is currently undergoing treatment at the Mawanella Hospital.
