Srilanka, Nov. 5 -- The National Commission on Women, established under the Women's Empowerment Act No. 37 of 2024, is an independent institution created to safeguard and promote the rights and protection of Sri Lankan women. It is expected to begin official operations soon. Last week, the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savithri Paulraj, instructed Ministry officials and the National Women's Committee to extend full support to the Commission to ensure the establishment of the necessary infrastructure and arrangements for its commencement.The National Committee on Women will soon be elevated to a National Commission on Women with a legal mandate.
