Srilanka, Feb. 25 -- A ten-year-old schoolboy was attacked by a crocodile while swimming in the Mee Oya on February 24 and was rushed to Polpithigama Base Hospital with injuries. The child, a student at Hatigamuwa Primary School and a candidate for the upcoming Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, had gone for a swim on his birthday.
While swimming, the boy attempted to grab the crocodile that emerged from the water, but the animal bit him on the right arm, shoulder, and chest.
After receiving initial treatment at Polpithigama Base Hospital, the child was transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for further care.
