Srilanka, March 19 -- Speaker of Parliament announced today (19) that the live audio, video, and social media broadcasts of statements made by MP Archuna Ramanathan will be temporarily suspended.
This decision was made in response to derogatory and offensive remarks by the MP, which were deemed harmful to national unity and reconciliation.
Additionally, the Speaker stated that any indecent or vulgar remarks made by Ramanathan will be removed from the official Hansard records.
The suspension will be in effect for eight parliamentary sitting days, from tomorrow (20) until May 8. The Speaker further noted that the decision to lift the suspension will depend on the MP's conduct during this period.
