Srilanka, Feb. 27 -- A T-56 assault rifle and 22 rounds of ammunition, hidden in the Mahahena cemetery in Yagodamulla, Gampaha, were recovered by the Western Province Northern Crime Division last night (26) following a public tip-off.

A senior police officer confirmed that the discovery was made after a citizen alerted an officer from the division about the hidden weapon.

Police have launched an investigation to determine who placed the firearm in the cemetery.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya, previously announced a Rs. 1 million reward from the Police Reward Fund for information leading to the recovery of a T-56 rifle. This marks the first recovery of such a weapon following that announcement...
