Srilanka, March 21 -- Reports indicate that IGP Deshabandhu Tennakoon, whose service was suspended, refused to eat on the first day of his imprisonment at Angunakolapelessa Prison.

It is also reported that he has suffered a severe mental breakdown and has not spoken to anyone.

Meanwhile, Matara Magistrate Aruna Buddhadasa, who had rejected a bail application from Tennakoon's defense team, ordered his continued remand in connection with the shooting incident in the Weligama Pelena area.

The suspect will remain in custody until April 3.

The Magistrate also instructed that Tennakoon be kept in a separate, secure area of the prison under tight security.
