Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The Supreme Court today (07) dismissed the appeal filed by G. G. Amarasiri, also known as 'Julampitiya Amare', against the death penalty imposed on him, without taking the appeal up for a hearing.

The Supreme Court's order effectively confirmed the death sentence handed down by the Tangalle High Court.

The Tangalle High Court had sentenced Amarasiri to death for attacking a Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna meeting held in the Katuwana area in 2012. During the attack, he shot and killed two people and fatally injured another.
