Sri Lanka, Dec. 11 -- he Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000 on a supermarket along Glenfall Road for selling bottled drinking water at a price higher than the government-approved rate.

The ruling was delivered today (10 December 2025) after the supermarket admitted to charging Rs. 130 per bottle, despite the maximum retail price being Rs. 100.

Court officials said the penalty aims to deter similar violations and protect consumers during a period of increased economic pressure. The case was filed following a raid conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
