Sri Lanka, March 18 -- A project to study bird behaviour and collect data using GPS technology, a first in Sri Lanka, has been jointly initiated by the Department of Zoology of the University of Colombo and Central Provincial Environment Organizations collective.

Launching the project a two-year-old eagle was attached with a GPS collar and released near the historical Gannoruwa forest in Kandy recently.

Many ecologists are contributing to this project under the guidance and supervision of Prof.Sampath Seneviratne of the Colombo University's Zoology Department and Central Province Environment Organization Collective President Environmental Scientist Pradeep Samarawickrema.
