Srilanka, Feb. 20 -- A 31-year-old female volleyball player from Kanamulayaya, Naula, Matale, was arrested this morning (20) by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for attempting to smuggle foreign-made cigarettes worth Rs. 312,000 into Sri Lanka.
The suspect, who had returned from a short visit to Dubai, was caught carrying 104 cartons containing 20,800 "Platinum" brand cigarettes in her luggage. The cigarettes were discovered during a routine inspection at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.
Following her arrest, the volleyball player was released on police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court on February 25.
