Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- Sri Lanka's population has been recorded at 21,781,800, according to the 15th Population and Housing Census - 2024 conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics.
The enumeration phase of the census was carried out from 7 October 2024 to the second week of February 2025, with 00:00 hours on 19 December 2024 designated as the official "Census Moment." As in the 2012 census, the enumeration of persons was conducted according to their place of usual residence, using the de jure method.
Of the total population, 51.7 percent were females and 48.3 percent were males. The sex ratio stands at 93.3, with the highest reported in Monaragala District (97.9) and the lowest in Batticaloa District (88.0).
