Srilanka, April 2 -- The Government of Sri Lanka has made significant strides in advancing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM). In 2021, Sri Lanka established the GCM Implementation Committee, co-convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Employment, followed by the development of a national implementation plan in 2022.
At the opening session of the United Nations (UN) Sri Lanka Workshop on the UN Network on Migration and the GCM in Colombo on April 1st, Peace and Development Adviser Patrick McCarthy, representing the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, praised Sri Lanka's commitment to promoting regular migration pathways and supporting migrant rights.
