Since Sri Lanka is a tropical island nation, it is already highly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change, experiencing prolonged droughts, flash floods, landslides and rising sea levels. Projections suggest a 12 to 41 percent decline in rice yields by 2060, a 20 percent decline in fish harvests by 2050 and annual infrastructure losses of US$ 0.38 billion.
He said that these climate-related impacts will reduce the GDP by 3.86 percent in the future.
