Sri Lanka, Nov. 25 -- Ahead of the Sri Pada pilgrimage season, set to begin on 4 December 2025, a series of programmes under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative has been launched to maintain the sacred area as a polythene- and plastic-free zone.

The initiative is being implemented in two phases. The first programme took place on 25 November 2025 in the Sri Pada Udamaluwa surrounding area, with participation from 50 Sri Lanka Army personnel.
The initiative involves the support of government and non-government organisations, as well as the wider community, aiming to ensure a clean and sustainable environment for pilgrims during the upcoming season.
