Srilanka, Feb. 20 -- The Governments of Sri Lanka and India have reached an agreement to establish a 120 MW solar power plant in Sampur, Trincomalee, with the project set to be implemented in two phases.

The first phase will involve the construction of a 50 MW plant, followed by a 70 MW plant in the second phase. The initiative will be a joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) under a build, own, and operate model.

The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Power and Energy to move forward with the first phase of the project, which will focus on the development of the 50 MW solar power plant.
