Srilanka, May 8 -- Sri Lanka ranks 89th among the 193 countries featured in the 2025 Human Development Index (HDI) released recently by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Sri Lanka leads the South Asian region with high Human Development scores, reflecting stronger performance in Education, Health, and Income indicators. Nepal and Pakistan respectively ranked (145) and (168),which remains in the low HDI category, but trails South Asian peers such as Bhutan (125), India and Bangladesh (both at 130), all of which also fall under the medium HDI group. Ireland tops the list, followed by Norway, Switzerland, Denmark and Germany according to the HDI 2026.
