Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has decided to provide a special reward to Police officers who refer drug addicts to rehabilitation according to the proper procedure.
When questioned about the matter, IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya said that a reward of Rs.5,000 will be provided to Police officers for each drug addict who is referred to rehabilitation.
The IGP also stated that steps will be taken to issue the relevant order.
The IGP further said that he has strictly instructed the Police to enhance raids to arrest drug traffickers, sellers and distributors and to refer drug addicts to rehabilitation.
Despite this, the IGP also noted that there is a tendency in some Police stations to arrest drug addicts instead...
