Srilanka, May 21 -- Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne announced today (21) that firm action will be taken regarding the misuse of Standing Order 27(2) during parliamentary proceedings.

The Speaker noted that recent questions raised by the Opposition Leader and other party leaders could have been more appropriately presented as oral questions or during the adjournment debate.

"Several party leaders have violated Standing Orders by raising supplementary or unrelated questions," the Speaker stated. "Moving forward, all questions raised under Standing Order 27(2) must strictly comply with parliamentary procedure."

The announcement signals a stricter enforcement of parliamentary decorum and procedural discipline.
