Sri Lanka, Oct. 28 -- A tragic incident occurred in Isinbassagama, Medawachchiya, where an 81-year-old woman was reportedly attacked and killed with a sharp weapon inside her home. The Medawachchiya Police were alerted to the incident early this morning (27) and have launched investigations.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the victim, who lived with her son who has a speech impediment, may have been attacked by him. Police suspect that the son struck his mother on the head with a sharp weapon, possibly an axe, on the night of October 26.

The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear.
