Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- A team from the Army's 112 Brigade Headquarters in Badulla rescued 22 persons (21 males and one female) who were stranded up the Naranagala mountain on Saturday night after a sudden storm hit the area.

The group, comprised of separate trekking teams from areas including Negombo, Nugegoda, Maharagama, Kosgoda and Pannipitiya, had planned to camp on the mountain overnight.

In the late afternoon, the area was hit by heavy rain, severe winds and intense cold, leaving the trekkers in a dangerous situation. The Badulla District Disaster Management Unit was notified and immediately requested the assistance of the 112 Brigade Headquarters.
