Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof has announced the commencement of trials for fully electric, solar-powered waste-collecting boats on the Beira Lake.

The innovative boats are capable of collecting up to 3,000 kilograms of floating solid waste daily. Four such boats will be launched on the lake in the coming weeks as part of a broader initiative to permanently restore and revive the historic water body.

"This initiative is an outcome of Clean Ocean Force's membership in the Western Province's Task Force on Restoring the Beira Lake. I am grateful for their hard work to create such innovative products for a good cause," Governor Yusoof stated.
