Sri Lanka, Nov. 3 -- Social media activist and YouTuber Saliya Ranawaka has been arrested in Thailand following the issuance of a red warrant against him.

In May 2024, the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court had issued a conditional order under the Online Safety Act No. 09 of 2024, preventing Ranawaka's YouTube channel, Lanka V News, from publishing or communicating defamatory content against Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage.

At that time, the Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage, acted on a petition alleging that Ranawaka and his channel had uploaded malicious and defamatory videos threatening national security.
