Srilanka, Feb. 14 -- A 45-year-old businessman from Kotahena, Colombo, was arrested by Customs officers at Katunayake Airport yesterday evening (13) for attempting to smuggle in a stock of mobile phones and tablet computers valued at Rs. 30 million.
The businessman, who frequently travels by air, arrived on Qatar Airways flight QR-654 at 4:30 pm on February 1st. However, his luggage was not on that flight and was instead sent separately to Katunayake Airport. The businessman arrived yesterday evening to collect the luggage.
Upon inspection, Customs officers discovered 180 mobile phones and 5 tablet computers hidden in the luggage. The arrest was made by Deputy Customs Directors Madhusankha Wijewardena, Buddhika Nishantha, Indula Mahesh...
