Srilanka, April 1 -- The Government has decided to provide essential relief aid and deploy emergency response teams to assist the people affected by the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) sources said.

As of yesterday (March 31), at least 1,700 people have died, and hundreds remain missing, according to foreign media reports.

Rescue operations are still underway to free individuals trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings. The earthquake has severely impacted Mandalay, Naypyidaw, and areas near the epicentre, causing significant destruction.
