Sri Lanka, Nov. 21 -- Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader and Opposition MP Sajith Premadasa announced that the party has taken immediate action against a local council candidate arrested in connection with a significant narcotics seizure on a fishing vessel off the Southern coast.

In a post on 'X', Premadasa confirmed that the accused candidate's SJB membership has been suspended with immediate effect. He added that a separate inquiry will be launched to determine further action.

"The SJB strongly condemns the narcotics trade, a cancer on our society. We are committed to reforming laws to impose the strictest penalties on those involved in such illegal activities," Premadasa stated.
