Sri Lanka, Nov. 17 -- A Kandaketiya Pradeshiya Sabha member from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has been taken into custody in Pallewatte, Badulla, after police found cannabis in his possession.

According to the Badulla Galauda Police, the councillor who is also employed as a security assistant at the Hapathgamuwa electric fence-resides in Pallewatte, Hapathgamuwa, in the Hali Ela area.

The arrest followed a tip-off alleging that he was involved in selling cannabis. Acting on the information, police carried out an unannounced operation using a special informant and recovered 86 grams of cannabis allegedly packed for sale.
