Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- A Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate who contested the last Local Government election on the preferential list was arrested in Horowpothana for possessing crystal methamphetamine (Ice").

The suspect was arrested by Horowpothana Police during a road operation in the town, acting on an intelligence tip-off received by the Officer-in-Charge of Police and found 410 milligrams of 'Ice' concealed on his motorcycle.

The suspect, identified as W.W.G.Shantha, a 57-year-old resident of Mukkarawewa, was presented before the Kebithigollewa Magistrate's Court. The Court granted the Horowpothana Police a detention order to hold and question him until October 7 on charges of possession and trafficking of the illicit drug.
