Sri Lanka, March 8 -- A Fundamental Rights Petition was filed in the Supreme Court yesterday challenging the appointment and functioning of Deshabandu Thennakoon as the Inspector General and requesting to direct the relevant authorities to initiate disciplinary and criminal action against him over the torture charges.

It has been filed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya Anti-Corruption Movement Convener Niroshan Padukka and Committee Member Ananda Palitha.They have named the IGP, the Chairman and the members of the Constitutional Council and the National Police Commission (NPC) and the Attorney General as respondents.
