Srilanka, March 28 -- Six pairs of meerkats brought to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the National Animal Exchange Programme were put on public display from yesterday.
Dehiwala Zoological Gardens Director General, Dr. R. C. Rajapaksa said these meerkats which were brought to the country on February 10, were quarantined for over a month under the supervision of veterinarians. Zoological Gardens Assistant Director Dinushika Manawadu said that these six pairs of meerkats
are currently between 2 and 6 years and live for a maximum of 15 years. They are an animal species that lives mostly in the African savannas and mountain forests in the world.
