Sri Lanka, Jan. 9 -- The Women and Child Affairs Minister Savithri Paulraj told Parliament yesterday since the pre-school subject remains a provincial council subject, steps will be taken to formulate a single national policy for pre-schools.

The Minister stated that a contributory pension has been proposed for pre-school teachers and that some provincial council units are already providing some allowance to retired pre-school teachers.

The Minister stated this in response to a question asked by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa under 27(2). The Minister also stated that there are 18,982 pre-schools across the country and they are operating according to the powers under the Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
