Sri Lanka, Jan. 1 -- The Meteorology Department has issued a general weather forecast for the next 36 hours, warning of increased showers in Eastern, Northern, and Uva provinces due to a developing low-level atmospheric disturbance east of Sri Lanka.

Showers are expected at times in Eastern, Central, North-Central, and Uva provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in parts of Central and Uva provinces, as well as in Batticaloa and Ampara districts. Northern Province is also expected to experience several spells of showers.

A few showers or thundershowers may occur in other parts of the country after 2.00 p.m., with occasional rainfall in coastal areas of the North-Western and Western provinces. Misty conditions are expect...
