Srilanka, April 30 -- Colombo Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeevani Pathirana today (30) imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on a shop owner found guilty of selling bottled water at a price exceeding the government-regulated limit.
The convicted individual operated a shop opposite the private bus stand on Bastion Mawatha, Pettah, Colombo. The Consumer Affairs Authority's Investigation Unit arrested the suspect during a raid conducted on April 11, following a tip-off.
Investigating officers informed the court that the sale violated a gazette notification setting maximum retail prices for bottled water. They emphasized that similar violations continue despite the regulation, prompting immediate enforcement actions.
