Sri Lanka, Nov. 17 -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a foreign woman in Sri Lanka, after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media, prompting outrage locally and internationally.

The Police Tourism Division, together with the Thirukkovil Police, launched an investigation after the footage went viral. Police later issued a public appeal seeking assistance to identify the assailant.

Based on information received, officers arrested the suspect yesterday (16) in the Periyanilaveni Police Division. The suspect is a 25-year-old resident of Ellai Street, Kaluwanchikudi. The assault is believed to have taken place on 25 October 2025.
