Srilanka, Feb. 21 -- A total of 76 passengers traveling without tickets were arrested during a two-hour ticket inspection at the Kalutara railway station yesterday (20) from 4:00 PM onwards, according to Tourist Ticket Inspector Sugath Rohitha.

Among those apprehended, 15 were women. The inspection was carried out on trains arriving at the Kalutara railway station, including the Galle Kumari, Ruhunu Kumari, Samudra Devi, Sagarika, and Hikkaduwa office trains.

A fine of Rs. 139,840 was collected from 46 passengers who were penalized on the spot. Many passengers had to use their available cash to settle the fines immediately.

The operation was conducted by a team of 24 officials led by Tourist Ticket Inspector Sugath Rohitha.
