Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- The Sevanagala Sugar Industry, owned by the Lanka Sugar Company had to pay Rs.8,000 million to various institutions for loans and various services during the previous government, but the money owed was hidden and the company reported profits.That is how the company made profits at that time, Trade, Commerce and Food Security Deputy Minister R.M.Jayawardena said. He mentioned this on Monday when he visited the Sevanagala Sugar factory to investigate the damage caused by the fire that destroyed the sugarcane plantation.

The Sevanagala Sugar factory had not remitted money to the Employees' Provident Fund and the Employees' Trust Fund due to be paid on behalf of employees in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
