Sri Lanka, July 19 -- The National Police Commission has officially dismissed former Director of the State Intelligence Service, Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, from the police service following a disciplinary investigation.

The decision was made after the Commission found him guilty of failing to act on prior intelligence that could have prevented the deadly Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in 2019. The Commission, chaired by retired High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake, reached its decision during a meeting held on July 18.
