Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The government has announced that the second phase of the public servant salary increase, introduced under the 2025 budget in three phases, will be implemented in the upcoming 2026 budget.
Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, stated that public servant salaries will rise by 60-80% over three years starting from 2025.
The first phase of the increase, amounting to 30%, was granted this year.
The second phase will provide an additional 30-35% in 2026, with the final stage to follow in 2027.
Sri Lanka has approximately 1.4 million public servants, and the salary hike will also extend to semi-public institutions, state enterprises, and pensioners.
