Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) has formally introduced a comprehensive framework for the categorization of unit trusts, legally termed Collective Investment Schemes (CIS), through a directive issued on October 1, 2025, under Sections 16(c) and 16(d) of the Securities and Exchange Commission Act, No. 19 of 2021. Approved at the SEC's 522nd meeting held on September 16, 2025, the directive, referenced SEC/SUP/2025/LO/367, mandates all managing companies and trustees of CIS to adopt one of six standardized categories: Growth, Balanced, Income, Money Market, Gilt, or Index.
