Srilanka, July 1 -- tarting August 1, 2025, all passengers traveling in light vehicles on expressways will be required to wear seat belts, while the same rule will apply to passengers in express buses from September 1. The announcement was made by Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Ratnayake, during an inspection at the Colombo Central Bus Stand this morning (01).
The Minister emphasized that the move is aimed at reducing fatalities and serious injuries resulting from road accidents, which continue to claim a large number of lives across the country.
From August, wearing seat belts will be mandatory not just for front-seat passengers but also for those in the rear seats of light vehicles using expressways...
