Sri Lanka, Jan. 21 -- The Supreme Court yesterday fixed March 9 for the hearing of appeal applications filed by former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and former Lanka Sathosa Chairman Nalin Fernando, who are seeking to overturn their convictions in the controversial carrom board procurement case.
The appeals were taken up before a two-judge Bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Achala Wengappuli, which fixed the matters for argument on March 9.
The appeals are relating to the judgement delivered on May 29, 2025, by the Colombo High Court Permanent Trial-at-Bar, which found both accused guilty of causing a financial loss exceeding Rs. 53 million to the State. The High Court sentenced Aluthgamage to ...
