Sri Lanka, Aug. 8 -- The Supreme Court yesterday found attorney Dharmasiri Karunaratne guilty of deceit and malpractice, ordering his immediate removal as an attorneys-at-law. The ruling follows a 2023 incident where Karunaratne tore two pages from a case record at the Court of Appeal's record room.

Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, delivering the judgement with Justices Kumudini Wickremasinghe and Achala Wengappuli in agreement, stated that Karunaratne's actions had tarnished the legal profession's reputation. Court further noted that the attorney provided a false name to access the record, compounding the offence.
