Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne announced in Parliament yesterday (9) that the Supreme Court has held that the Presidents' Entitlements (Repeal) Bill seeking to abolish certain privileges of former Presidents is in accordance with the Constitution and can be passed with a simple majority.
The Speaker announced the determination of the Supreme Court on the Bill in question which was challenged before the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121 (1) of the Constitution. Accordingly, the Speaker informed the House that the Supreme Court has determined that none of the provisions of the Presidents' Entitlements (Repeal) Bill are inconsistent with any provision of the Constitution.
