Sri Lanka, Oct. 8 -- The Supreme Court today (08) granted permission to proceed with three fundamental rights petitions filed by former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Shani Abeysekara and former police inspectors Sudath Mendis and H.D.M. Premathilaka.

The petitions seek a ruling that their fundamental human rights were violated when they were arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) in 2020 without reasonable grounds.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Mahinda Samayawardena, granted leave to proceed after lengthy consideration of the submissions presented before the court.
