Sri Lanka, Dec. 16 -- Mohammad Kasim Abdul Samad, a Pradeshiya Sabha member representing the Sarva Jana Balaya, has been re-arrested in connection with a murder that occurred in the Polonnaruwa area, police said.

He was previously arrested on the 14th in relation to an assault incident in which a person sustained serious injuries, including broken teeth. Abdul Samad was charged in that case, produced before court, and released on bail on the same day.

Subsequently, the injured individual died following the altercation. An autopsy conducted into the death returned an open verdict, with samples forwarded to a forensic expert to determine the exact cause of death.
