Srilanka, May 14 -- The government has taken action to import salt due to a shortage of salt in the market. Accordingly, the first shipment of salt ordered is scheduled to arrive in the country today. A Lanka Salt Company senior official said that this step was taken due to the shortage of salt in the market.

The reason for the salt shortage in the market is that salt was not imported when there were indications of a salt shortage, Salt Producers' Association Chairman Ganaka Amarasinghe said. He stated that the salt shortage will end with the arrival of salt stocks to the country soon.
